I have been very busy the past week getting my sons paperwork all in order for him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He is still a senior, but he knows what he wants when he graduates and the Corps is it. He scored almost perfect on his ASVAB, one point from perfect! Needless to say I am very proud of him…
As a mother though I have to say I have mixed feelings because no mother wants to see her children in harms way. BUT, he is following in the footsteps of so many other sons and daughters who have given their all and sometimes paid the ultimate price to ensure that we have freedom here at home. I can’t thank every service man and woman enough for what they do for us and our contry. Now I can count my son among them.
Today I just want to send out my thanks to everyone serving our country and also send out my prayers and good thoughts for their families who wait at home for them to return.

I have read this great book in the past and apparently, I let it’s lessons fade from my mind. I have had my share of bad life experiences, bad relationships and general angst…the thing is, if you are willing to have forgiveness, accept change and work on having the right mental attitude then you will attract better things to you. If you keep dwelling on the negative and swimming in the swirling eddy of mental images of what you don’t want, then you will continue to attract more of that to you. Negative thinking is a bad habit and it is also a choice. You have the power every moment of your life to choose the positive. Like many habits, it is easier for some people to change them than others and some habits take longer for you to effect permanent change than others.
Quitting smoking was a cake walk for me…I just decided to quit and I never picked up another one. My husband, on the other hand, has struggled for years with his smoking. He quit for several years only to pick up one and that one led to many more and now he is hooked again. (That is really a whole other struggle with us right now!)
So, whatever your mental habits, this is a great book and offers incredible insight into healing aspects of our lives. Having trouble finding the right partner, achieving prosperity, medical conditions won’t go away? Consider that you might need the wisdom in this book. I have found it invaluable and hopefully I will make the 21 days of not complaining if I work with the concepts contained in the book enough. =)

Can you really call it baby fat when your baby is in school now? After a certain amount of time, it is just plain ole fat!

I know how cute baby fat is on babies…look at how those fatty lumps and rolls l0ok so pinchably precious! Believe me, not so cute on a 40-something woman, LOL. So, I guess it is time to start working out again and watching those chocolates. The kids are at school for 6 hours a day, surely I can find a few minutes to do some exercise, ya think?
With a little help from Advocare, which helped me lose 30 pounds before; I think I can be looking fairly lean before the holidays hit!

As much as I love the thrift stores, flea markets, used book stores and such…I love the sale room at my public library even more! It is all books in great shape and the money helps support our local library. Did I mention that they have super great prices on everything? I made off with 6 books for $7 and three of them were hard backs!

I got two books by Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth and The Power of Now; The Weekend Novelist by Robert J. Ray; How To Write Science Fiction & Fantasy; and two incredibly beautiful hardback clasics, Wuthering Heights and The House of the Seven Gables.
I love to read, I aspire to write and I am ever a thrifty shopper…can’t wait to read them. I have never seen or read Wuthering Heights; all I know of it comes from refernces in a Pat Benetar song and somehow I bet I am missing out on a lot there! So, kudos to Pat for the literary reference!

Yes! I am in the home stretch…the countdown is on…school starts tomorrow and I can hardly wait!
My plans for my first day of solitude? I think I will curl up on the loveseat in the sunroom with a good book and some iced tea. I have been reading a Tami Hoag book for the past month and am seriously only 100 pages in because the kids have been like a tag team all summer…once I get one settled in with food, drink, a game or a movie; here comes another one!
I picked up the Tami Hoag novel, Prior Bad Acts, for a quarter from the thrift store. A couple of my greatest loves, after my husband of course, are books and thrift stores. I feel like I am on a modern day treasure hunt! So, my book awaits and so does a bit of overdue housework, but that could probably wait. It’s not like it is going anywhere. So, if you have read Prior Bad Acts, don’t ruin it for me…I know it’s not new, but it is new to me. =)
Just in case I didn’t state how happy I am to have some quiet time coming…here is a happy face to prove it!

Back to school time means shopping for crayons, pens, pencils, paper…etc, etc, etc. My oldest actually needed several flash drives for school! So while I am searching all over the store for the obscure supplies the teachers always ask for…because there is always one who will ask for purple graph paper or something equally as hard to find…I am kind of in a school supply induced stupor.
All the pretty notebooks, and the awesome pens that write in purple, the index cards that come on a spiral like a composition book, the planners with their blank lines promising that there will be things to come worth writing down. I made it out alive, almost completely unscathed. I think my debit card protested a bit because this was the most expensive school supply year so far for our family.
However, I managed to make out with some supplies for my home office. I need some office/school supply love too! Marbled composition books are a business expense for a free lance writer, right? The purple pens were a must have for jotting down those ideas before they flitter away from me…
Yes, my name is ________________, and I am a school/office supply addict… Sign me up for the twelve step progam.
You should see me at Staples; problem is I probably wouldn’t see you because office supplies make me giddy, make me happy and frankly inspire me to fill up the empty spaces on the paper!

Welcome, August! Summertime is slowly stretching out in my rear view mirror and I am quite happy about that…I love having the kids around, but I love to have some quality quiet time when they are off at school too =)
This video is incredible and it got me thinking today…watch it and let me know what you think; I think i have some adjustments to make and this is so simple, I don’t know why I just haven’t caught on to the concept before now!
Watch for the wednesday newsletter for the announcement on who will be receiving the copy of “Out of the Spin Cycle”. It was fun to read and it will be even more fun to pass on such a great resource!

Yea, those lazy days are saved for childhood for sure. I have been running around like a chicken without a head all summer…cooking, cleaning, fetching games and toys and lost shoes. So, is it wrong to be a bit excited that all the kids got registered for school this week? Two more weeks and I will have my days free again. To cook, clean and fetch lost items while I enjoy a bit of alone time, LOL!
After spending the better part of the morning standing in various lines to register my high schooler, I got to spend a bit of the night standing in yet another line. I didn’t mind so much; the husband and I got to go see Jeff Dunham. After the day I had, a little comic relief was very welcome =)
And I am back on a day one count on my Complaint Free World tracker; but who’s counting!

I don’t know if you can see them…there are two baby squirrels resting on the support board of the fence near the corner. I have been watching a family of squirrels all weekend who have taken up residence in the lava rock pile in my backyard. There are about 6 little ones in addition to the parents. My backyard is about as close to getting into nature as I get; and these little guys have proven to be relaxing to watch. It is almost like watching fish in a tank; only these critters will grow up and strike off on their own before long. Makes me think of mine leaving the nest…they just won’t be doing it as quicky as the squirrels!
